Under the direction of Kumu Hula Greg Lontayao, Hālau Kawaihoa and Noa Noa Te Tiare Polynesian Dance Company was established to perpetuate the traditions and the culture of the hula and polynesian dance. The style of hula and polynesian dances is taught in its form as passed down through generations and teachings.  The course teaches hula kahiko (ancient dances), hula 'auana (modern hula), and dances of Polynesia, with extreme emphasis on the expressions, emotions, interpretation, the visualization and the history behind each dance defined by its origin.  There are two levels of classes, competitive and non-competitive, students can opt for either level and allowed to move between the two levels with advance notice and instructor permission.

Listed below are the basic structures and fundamentals, which each student will learn and acquire throughout the course.  These basic structures and fundamentals are practiced in class and should also be practiced at home.  Each student will be required to participate in all basic structures and fundamentals listed below.  Including written and oral exams when given by the teacher.

Complete entire hula basic steps through gradual to intense physical training. Fundamentals in various polynesian dances covered.

The student will learn the basic structures of the Hawaiian and Polynesian language through simple situations and discussions to acquaint and familiarize the student with certain aspects and commonly used phrases within the Hawaiian and Polynesian culture as it applies and affects the hula and polynesian dance and its perspective.

The student will also be required to learn the words of chants and/or songs of the Hawaiian and Polynesian dances.  And in some cases, to chant or oli these same words.

Within the first year, each student will have acquired all the basic course structures and fundamentals and posses the basic knowledge and understanding of each course description.

The student will demonstrate their achievements of these skills by responding to oral and written exams, class discussions and situations.  Each student will also demonstrate these skills through group and individual performances in both hula and polynesian dances.

Each student should be able to answer questions and perform pertaining to the appropriate course skill(s) with an acceptable explanation, an acceptable performance, and an acceptable pronunciation of words and voice inflection.

Attendance at selected culturally oriented activities and events in the community will be required as part of each students growth, experience and knowledge as it relates to the hula and polynesian dance.  An evaluation is to be written by each student giving reaction and feelings to the experience or a class discussion will be implemented.

Fundraising for each student will be mandatory.  We encourage fundraising as a means of bringing the class together in a common goal and achievement to secure funds.  We will learn more about each other, grow from experiences, learn to work with one another and grow stronger and closer.  We will learn to deal with problems and work through simple problem solving.  We will engage in our differences and learn about humility and acceptance.

Certain structured events will be implemented and attendance mandatory as part of the student course goals and achievements.  The teacher will advise each student in advance to be well prepared.

The purpose and principal of the Kawaihoa Foundation is to assist with raising funds dependent and independently of the schools main focus and mission.  Funds may eventually include scholarships and contributions to impact and empower cultural perspectives.

Hālau Kawaihoa and Noa Noa Te Tiare Polynesian Dance Company encourages the participation, support and efforts of communities, families, relatives, friends, colleagues, and significant others, to play a role in the success, goals and achievements of these schools.  We invite the supporters to become active members to assist with encouragement and support.
